The National Associations of Realtors recently did a nationwide survey to discover what buyers are looking for the most when they buy a home. Here are the results:
Central Air Conditioning - 2 or more Car Garage
- Walk-in Closet in Master Bedroom
- Backyard/play area
- Cable / Satellite TV ready
- High Speek Internet Access
- Separate Shower enclosed in Master/Main Bath
- Patio
- Fencing
- Home less than ten years old.
For sellers, this means that if you want to get your home sold you have a much better chance of doing so if you have most if not all of these things associated with your home. This list will of course vary from state to state and from region to region. To get an accurate assessment of what it will take to sell your home, contact your local Realtor. If you live in the Charleston SC metro, contact Michael Johnson at 843-817-5299.
If you have a home anywhere in the Charleston Metro Area and would like to get more information about selling your home, please contact me for a free home evaluation.
I also work with buyers. If you are interested in more information about buying a home please contact me and I would be glad to meet with you or email you a list of homes.

I would add that the majority of buyers nationwide want a house that is move in ready and will not require alot of cosmetic "fixes."
Good post Michael. I agree with Linda buyers want "move-in" ready and they also like updated fixtures and appliances.
interesting post -- I hadn't seen this survey before.
Buyers have become as irrational as sellers were three years ago....This laundry list is not possilbe for our area for a first time buyer, but they still want it all....
Michael, this explains about 35,000 of the 50,000 homes we currently have listed in our market. It's not difficult for buyers to find all of these things, but difficult for sellers to have their home stand out amongst the others. The only real way to do that right now is to have the lowest list price.
Realtor Magazine also says that buyer want: "Nordstrom Service, Disney Innovation and K-Mart Prices" LOL:) Thanks for the post!
